what did sofas look like in the 1960s?

what did sofas look like in the 1960s.
can you please describe the colours and the style and the design and what is special about it and what’s different to the ones we have now?..please help…my sister wants to know.

We had a cottage sofa and chairs they were wooden framed and had wooden arms and padded out with material with cushions.
The material was hard waring like sitting on a brilo pad and come in brown, red or blue. Not the most comfy things to sit on but in 60’s we were out more than in.
That is what we had anyway my nans was a well padded hard course sofa material like cordroy itched when you sat on it. It was also very heavy so once placed you never moved it. ha It lasted her 30 years!!!!!!

Check this link for sofas from the 60’s. Very retro.

The colours I remember the most in 60’s furniture are Grey and Red. My parents had a ‘leatherette’ sofa in black with red and grey moquet cushions. It had black shiny legs, as opposed to feet, and brass casters. The style would probably be called fashionably ‘retro’ now.

Stacey, I remember my grandparents bought a new livingroom set, it had a sofa, chair and 3 tables. Western design, horses stitched onto the back of seats, and wooden tables carved horses on the sides. Lots of wood on sofa and chairs. very heavy and at that time very expensive. Wish I had it now!

A lot ot the links are akin to the type of glossy mag images you would see today – ie would have been very expensive. The most common settee suite I remember was the orange and brown stripey, nobbly moquette – which you may still find at your local 2nd hand shop or tip!
