How to sleep in the living room and have privacy?

I will be sleeping temporarily (a few months) in someone’s living room and am wondering what can be done to give me some privacy in the bed area (I don’t expect complete privacy–just don’t want people to walk in and see me or my bed clearly with no view obstruction). I have been wondering about room dividers or privacy screens but I don’t know which ones would give enough coverage for a queen size bed. Any recommendations? Please help.

A lot depends on how much you want to spend and if you can put any kinds of hooks or brackets in your friend’s/family’s ceiling but here are some options. Ikea…and other places have these inexpensive wire drape rods with clips that you can hang anything fairly light(even a pretty flat sheet) on and you can just slide the drape to the wall to get it out of the way. You could hang blinds easily and just pull them up during the day but that would be more expensive. If it doesn’t matter that it be out of the way during the day they have very inexpensive bead curtains everywhere (try ebay) in plastic and wood that are easy to hang. You could also use a trellis( they often have really cheap ones at places like Oddlots) and you can decorate them any way you want. Hope something helps and you can get some sleep without worrying about people seeing your hair sticking up on end as you sleep!

Room dividers would be perfect. If necessary use two. You can always use them later for other things like a Headboard.

A quick fix that can be totally uninstalled and not leave any traces of being there is a dark colored sheers, a strip of velcro and a box of thumb tacks, and a few safety pins.

    Here’s what you do:

Get a ladder or chair and on the ceiling place a long strip of heavy duty velcro to the ceiling using thumbtacks (or penny nails if you have popcorn ceilings), Then take the other side of the velcro and pin it to the top part of the sheers. Press the two pieces together and whola…instant privacy that can be taken down in the morning and put up each night (just make sure to use WHITE velcro so it blends into the ceiling so you don’t have to take it down each day, just the sheer piece.

FYI- the reason for dark sheers and not curtains is because the velcro won’t support the weight of a heavier drape. You are just looking for some privacy and this should definately do the trick.

    Hope this helps.
