A Single Sofa Bed Will Put You to Sleep Fast

While many people are going with futon beds with thicker mattresses for sitting rooms or enclosed patios these days, for the living room and other areas of the home where your family spends much of its time, there is nothing more comforting than a good single sofa bed. Whether you are looking for a sofa that you can sink down into or one that just has a particular style and color of fabric, there is almost an endless variety of sofa beds on the market today.

While there are a growing variety of styles for the sofa bed, most people are still purchasing the pull-out style where the mattress and springs are hidden underneath the cushions of the sofa until needed. Setting up the bed is fast and easy as you simply have to remove the sofa cushions and pull out the mattress.

Single Sofa Bed Benefits

Having a sofa bed anywhere in your home is an advantage when you have overnight guests. If you have children the fold-out bed is a great option for sleepovers, but it also comes in handy whenever friends, family, or business associates stay over a night or two. If you do not have a guest bedroom in your home, it is probably a good idea to have at least one sofa bed somewhere within your home.

Another benefit of the single sofa bed is that they can fit into smaller rooms or can be tucked into corners and more confined spaces comfortably. When space is really tight, you can even go with a sofa chair or love seat. The beds on these models will be smaller than your typical single sized sofa, but they are suitable for children or occasions when you need every bed you can possibly find.

Single Sofa Bed Disadvantages

It is rather ironic that the hidden mattresses in a sofa bed are the biggest advantage, and also the biggest disadvantage. Since they have to be quite thin to comfortably squeeze into the tight space underneath the cushions, most people find them uncomfortable. While they are still great options for occasional use or even for lighter people and children, many adults find some models too uncomfortable to actually sleep on.

The good news is there are ways around this problem. You can always purchase foam mattress toppers which can be stored in a closet or elsewhere in the home and then added onto the sofa bed once it is folded out. A thinner blow up mattress may also be an option, but you have to make sure it is very secure and is not going to slide around while sleeping on it.

Selection Tips

When purchasing a single sofa bed, make sure to look at a wide variety of options. There are a number of different body designs and some will be more compact than others. Make sure you know how much space you have in your home and then look around online for designs that may work with the available space.

Also, consider the thickness of the mattress and strength of the overall frame before purchasing. This is where price comes into play, since you get what you pay for in most cases.
