A Contemporary Leather Sofa Will Complete Your Home

A contemporary leather sofa embodies a style that offers low profiles and clean lines. The feet of the sofa are often set very close to the ground, making the contemporary leather sofa appear to be sitting directly on the floor. In addition to their unique style, most contemporary leather sofas will come in neutral colors. Neutral is the color palette most common with all contemporary home furnishings. The most frequently chosen colors for contemporary leather sofas will be cream, light brown or black.

The contemporary leather sofa can be manufactured in full grain, top grain and nubuck. Full grain leather is the most interesting of all leather cuts. The feel is soft and smooth, but the imperfections are really what drive the buyer. Full grain leather often has divots, scratches and marks that make this leather choice even more sought after. The top grain leather is another soft leather material used to make the contemporary leather sofa. Top grain can be difficult to maintain and tends to stain more easily than other leather materials. Nubuck is the most resilient of all leather choices. Nubuck is also sprayed with an agent the keeps the color looking newer, longer.

Contemporary leather sofas are offered in a variety of sizes. Small two-seater or loveseat contemporary leather sofas are perfect for bedrooms, sitting rooms or smaller apartment homes. Three-seater contemporary leather sofas can reach as long as 84" and require much more space in the home. Commonly the two and three-seater are purchased together as a furniture set. These sets may also include matching ottomans and side or end tables. Contemporary sectionals are also available in leather.

The care of leather is often the deciding factor. Leather can be difficult to care for which is a huge disadvantage. If there are children or pets in the home, it may be best to cover the contemporary leather sofa during times of heavy use to prevent staining, scratching or tearing. If leather is soiled, special cleansing solutions are required to remove the dirt. Leather cannot get wet, unless protected with a waterproof sealant. For this reason, cleaning leather must follow the manufacturer’s instructions to the letter.

Another big disadvantage to contemporary leather sofas is the cost. Genuine leather tends to retail two to three times the cost of other materials. Prices will range from $750 for a small sofa to more than $5000 for a larger contemporary leather sofa. With the cost, however, comes material that will last a lifetime with proper care.

Despite the disadvantages of caring for and paying for genuine leather, the look and feel cannot be beat. The soft texture of high grade leather feels similar to silk and can be dyed to match any home color scheme or interior design choice. This makes leather a great choice for any room, any family and any home.
